(...) Our favorite trend setter on Melrose Avenue is SURU, a modern shop that literally means &"hand printed"; in Japanese. For Angelinos, this is THE spot for stocking the citys number one wardrobe staple: the T-Shirt. SURU prints a limited number of each of its tees, all screen-printed and designed by local artists, which then hang and rotate by conveyor belt around the perimeter of the minimalistic store. Look here for limited edition books and vinyl toys as well. Part owned by a member of the rock band Linkin Park, you know the store, well, rocks.
Whats silver, shiny and has a revolving shirt rack like at the cleaners? Suru is a store on Melrose in Los Angeles started by Joe Hahn of Linkin Park catering to the most discriminating t-shirt fan and art collector. I had the opportunity to stop by there on my drive back to San Francisco on Saturday in support of Mike Boo and Dstyles, who played music for Dez Einswells opening there this weekend. I rarely say this, but Suru is the answer. If you are in LA and want a nice shirt designed by one of my favorite artists like Aya Kato, a painting by Dez Einzwell, or a custom toy made in Joe Hahn s honor, stop by check their range of products out. It was probably the first time I enjoyed myself at an art show in the city of Lost Angels. Not only that, but all the people there were some of the most friendly I have met down that way.
1)Great clothes and look for an urban hip hop store. The art shows they have here are great and bring something new to the table. All the staff is great and the toys on display are pretty cool also. I would recommend out of town guests to check out this place for the look and style of the clothes. Definitely takin' it up a step with this one.
2)Suru is a mens clothing store, and vinyl shop on Melrose. I never really cared about this place, until they started hosting art shows. Particularly, they housed my favorite artist, Alex Pardee, for his "Scratches & Abrasions" show last summer. The space is modern and well designed. The staff are super friendly, and really helpful. I bought an original piece at the show, and wondered how I was to get it home when the show would close a few months later. They so sneakily snuck my painting off the wall, wrapped it in packing paper in the back room, and sent me on my way. Amazing!
They do have really nice clothing for dudes though - skater graffiti type style. I think they sell shoes maybe, but I could be wrong. Obviously, I don't shop there for myself. I just go for art openings!
3)I used to come here all the time for their vinyl pieces. the service here is dope and their selection was feasible; but since then I think they changed into clothing and such but minimalism the selection for vinyl don't really remember what brands where held there.....
4)Cool tees, friendly people and COOL CLOTHES!!! I love Suru, i don't live in L.A. and I've only been there once but i'll definitely be back since i'm in l.a. at least twice a year.
It's really a great shop with tons of cool finds for locals and visitors alike.
5)This place is so awesomely hot, I want to have sex with it.
They only carry guys apparel here, but they carry a selection of art books (design, comics, graphic art) that will make any contemporary/urban art fan moist. Their layout is simple & clean and really showcases their products well.
The best part is the rotating T-shirt display behind the glass case...imagine a dry cleaners' rotating rack, with the t-shirts facing out so you see about a dozen t-shirts at a time. It's GENIUS!
6)The best t-shirts. The owner is from Linkin Park hes the dj. Very cool designs. I was here and bought four of them. Great with jeans. Lots of paintings inside very hip. The t-shirts are made perfectly great cotton. Love this place! I wish they open up in Nyc.
